January 27th, 2009 by nick

Country-rockin’ the nudie suit.

Alt-country, americana, country rock, or Gram Parsons’ famous description, “Cosmic American Music”. Call it what you will, but there is no disputing the importance of country and western music in the broad spectrum of rock n’ roll then and now. In a special episode of Stuck Between Stations, the guys investigate the diverse sounds of what may be loosely defined as alternative country spanning the roots of the genre(s) in Leadbelly’s 1935 recording of “Irene” to Ryan Adams & the Cardinals’ 2005 track, “Hard Way to Fall”. Special attention will be paid to the iconic Gram Parsons, whose contributions to this genre cannot be overestimated. We’ll also hear choice cuts from The Rolling Stones, Uncle Tupelo, Neil Young, and The Replacements.
