Itunes Listing

October 20th, 2008 by thedougler

So, today, I submitted the station to get listed on Itunes’ radio listings.  I hope that it works out.  There are some people on the net that were warning against it because of the amount of traffic generated through itunes; however, i think that it could help the station, and if we have to change it or take it off, that can be done.

It’ll be an interesting experiment anyways.

Little Done today

October 19th, 2008 by thedougler

Today, I made it so that xmms, winamp and other meta data players will report which show is being played at the moment. within their screens.  It looks nice, but i want to get it to work on teh flash player too.

I didn’t get the DJ blogs to show up in their little page that comes off the calendar, i’ll get this in time. but it’s a little tricky at the moment without developing some more abstract infrastructure.

I also found out that one of my scripts wasn’t backing everythign up too, so i got that working properly today.  phew, glad nothign went wrong; but in al practicality, i haven’t changed a whole lot in the scripts that manage the podcasts in a while.

g’night

Unbelievable

October 19th, 2008 by thedougler

So, for the last couple of weeks, i’ve found a problem with the way that firefox was displaying the site.  It turns out that sometimes firefox will resize a website for you!! how frustrating. So I was able to get the site to return to it’s regular size, and i might be able to make it so that it sticks to everyone’s site.  nevertheless, firefox is my favourite browser, and I don’t want to give up on it.

So, now the buttom for detaching looks better than it’s finicky fix earlier.  I’ve also done a couple other changes

1) taken out the gradients

2) added in a link to each show playing so that it shows the info about the show, and possibly the rss feed to go along with it… i’ll have to create something for the content manager to maintain so that this works. I have some ideas :D

3) Added a description link to the detach module. So you can see some information that the show is about.. I think that I might put a link to the dj’s blog in there as well.  This is great.

More for later,

Some Changes to the site

October 18th, 2008 by thedougler

Hey everyone,

I had a good time in abbotsford a couple weeks ago; i spent two days in the station working on various computers and working with our new workstudy student Nathan.  It’s cool to be training someone on using all the programs that i’ve set up over the last bit of the summer.

Today,  i mostly worked on making the homepage more pretty, i made it so that you can view comments right off of the main page, and also put a link up so that you can easily leave comments without having to track down the blog through the blog link.

Also, i made it so that the detached player resizes to the proper size and says which show is being played at that moment. I think that I might also put a link in there so that it checks the show descriptions too.  It might be nice to have something that refreshes the page wtihout refreshing the music too.. i’m pretty sure i could write a javascript applet that uses ajax to refresh it… this sounds like fun.

These are good projects for me.

Information for bloggers

September 21st, 2008 by thedougler

Hello!

You may be wondering what this new contraption on the CIVL website is; well, it’s an answer to a vague question.  Someone asked, can we make this website more web 2.0?  The question was asked over a year ago, and it’s taken me this long to figure out what it means.

So, in the new incarnation of the site, i’ve created a number of ways that people can interact with the website.

1) listen with an imbedded player

2) listen with their choice of player

3) chat with the DJ right off of the website

4) listen to archived shows (possibly an embedded player for all archived shows will come soon)

5) major improvements to the visual appeal of the schedule

6) finally,  a place where DJs can come online, post about their shows and talk about their shows with other people.

I’ve also made sure that our myspace and facebook sites are available off of the main page.

Any suggestion for where to go from here?
