CiVL Pinheads Win the 1st Annual Punk Bowlers Ball!
CiVL came out to support the 2009 Punk Bowlers Ball at Rev’s Lanes in Burnaby B.C., on August 28 to help support the cause of Punk Rock Bowling in Vancouver. Assembling a rag-tag team consisting of Adam Nathe of Mostly Punk and Blues, Amos Evans of Psycho Radio, Dustin Ellis of The Freaky Freaky Show and Larry Portelance of The CanCon Container Ship, the CiVL Pinheads turned out to be the Cinderella story of the tournament. Aided by a handicap system that allowed these mostly novice bowlers to compete against the much more experienced teams, the Pinheads scrambled into the top 16 in 15th place, slid into the top 8 in 6th place, squeaked into the top 4 in 4th and bowled their best game in the semi-finals, entering the final match seeded #1. Coming up against the heavily-favored Legendary Lane Smashers, and with a 140-pin handicap not seeming insurmountable by the well-experienced Smashers, the final was a nail-biter through and through, literally coming down to the last few balls. When the dust had settled, the Smashers had only beaten their mild-mannered opponents by 129 pins, securing victory for the unlikeliest of champions.
Many thanks go out to all those that helped, including The Ramores, Los Furios, and Blacked Out for playing at the Lanes, as well as Impeders of Progress, FatTooth, The Banned, and The Jolts, for givng the night a great Punk Rock sendoff at the Cobalt.
