Welcome back! Great sets of indie/folk/rock, quiet folk, sweet sweet pop, and finally, whale music. New work from Prairie Cat, Clues, The Decemberists, Carnival Knights, Flowers From The Man Who Shot Your Cousin. Most Excited about the first two. They are my type of thing. Carrie Pratt? Is Prairie Cat, and has a great ears to hear when he has created a great pop song. And Clues, Alden Penner of the Unicorns is making music in the public sphere once again, and I, for none, am pleased.
Cowboys & Indians - Life Everlasting
Carnival Knights - Hero Of Green Lake
Eisenhauer - Feel The Sames
In Medias Res - A Cause For Concern
Flowers From The Man Who Shot Your Cousin - Wild Geese
Laura Gibson - Spirited
The Decemberists - The Hazards Of Love
Prairie Cat - It Began, Ended With Sparks

Hey Cool Cats! The debut offering from Apollo Ghosts has arrived in my palms and I am giddy. A first prediction? I really think that these cats are going to go somewhere. Jangly guitars with good energy and clever songwriting = $5 dollar record that is selling like a Honey Badger on a Cobra. We meander through the Seattle indie rock scene and end up in California and play some work from the Jay/Megan collaborative team in Fine Mist and International Falls. It’s Pop Music From Around Here.
Dave Bazan - Selling Advertising
Damien Jurado - Caskets
Starflyer 59 - Minor Keys
Richard Swift - Songs For National Freedom
Apollo Ghosts - Shadow Boxing Bruce Lee
Apollo Ghosts - Late Night Chinese Restaraunts
International Falls -

Jamison Dyck has left the studio, but not before curating an excellent batch of Pop Music From Around There and pumping it out onto the airwaves from Studio 1 in CIVL Radio, Abbotsford, BC, Canada, The World, The Universe(Kids love that kind of stuff, I learned about that in EDUC 200 - Educational Psychology).
JD dishes his favourite tracks from Grizzly Bear, The Dodos, Parachutes while Nathan steals a little water from the Halifax pop music excellence well playing Brent Randall and his Pinecones and Lara Peek and the Winning Hearts. Peek is a Pinecone, but Randall is not a Winning Heart. Go figure. It’s Pop Music From Around There on CIVL Radio, February 4th, 2009.
Ponytail - Beg Waves
Parachutes - Your Stories
Beirut - Venice
Climb Aboard The Friendship - We Are Getting Nowhere
The Appleseed Cast - The Summer Before
The Dodos - Fools
Grizzly Bear - Colorado
Brent Randall and His Pinecones - Strange Love

Larry Portelance, well versed in the music communities of the East Coast comes for the 2nd time into CIVL Radio’s studio 1 and listeners of Pop Music From Around Here/There gain the benefits of his gleanings. I offer my 2 cents as well, playing tracks from Nathan Lawr and the Minotaurs, Brent Randall and his Pinecones, The Maughams and commenting judiciously along with Larry. But this is Larry’s baby. Eric’s trip, Jenn Grant, A/V, Sleepless Nights…Yes.
Eric’s Trip - Girlfriend
Shotgun & Jaybird - Two & Two is Four
Jon McKiel - 123 My Friends
Tom Fun Orchestra - Marshall Applewhite
Hotshot Robot - Epicurean, Listen
A/V - Slow Moving Ambulance
Brent Randall & His Pinecones - These Days, These Knights
Nathan Lawr & The Minataurs - Footsteps
The Maughams - Darling, I…
Down With The Butterfly - Two Stories

Egad, computer problems. Servers crashing. It’s nearly all online streaming content today. But good online streaming content. Except that transitioning from myspace to myspace, loading and stopping pages from playing at innapropriate times is stressful. Moreover, it was pretty lonely in the studio.
BUT. A good lineup which I could rattle of now, or you could hop your eyes a line down and read it for yourself.
Apollo Ghosts - Ghost Get Out Of My Apartment
Golden Touch - From a Backseat
Falcao & Monashee - Starlight
Aidan Knight - Cold House ( On the DL)
The Dudes - Don’t Talk
Karl Blau - That’s How I Got to Memphis
Collapsing Opposites - Look at What You Make
Colourbook - Krakatoa
The Microphones - The Moon
Caulfield ( & his magic violin) - Folk
Lake - Oh the Places
DD/MM/YYYY - White Lies
Chad VanGaalen - Willow Tree

Welcome to another episode of Pop Music From Around There, courtesy of guest host and pal Sarah Vanpopta. There means the “Yours to Discover” Province. That means Ontario. If yours to discover means I need to do the leg work to discover just how great Ontario is, that sounds hard, and daunting, something I don’t have the energy to do. Fortunately Sarah takes us on a tour of her land, stopping in Guelph, Mississauga, Toronto and her hometown Hamilton and feeds us the best of each locale. New new new track from Zachary Aasman, songs courtesy of The D’ubervilles, Andre Charles Theriault and Allosaurus with a couple of Pop Music From Around Here mainstays as well.
Allosaurus - Science Fairwell
Familia - 17
