EPISODE 4 // Pop Music From Around There
Another Wednesday. Another set of Pop Music from Around Here. Aha! No! That is not the case on this blizzardy wednesday. I met Larry Portelance in Political Science 190, International Relations. Well, I don’t think we chatted during the class, but perhaps the semester afterwards. He had overseas experience with the military that was much more interesting than our textbook.
Then, several weeks ago, a conversation that began around Larry’s T-Rex bike horn turned towards mint records pop music. To my surprise, the military man showed a keen awareness of the many alleys and avenues of pop music in Vancouver…then, changing gears, he gave me an incredible run-down of the indie pop rock scene in the Atlantic provinces. Every summer, Mr. Portelance works in the military base of…and with little else to do, the local music clubs were given a new consistent patron.
