With a record looming in the future and a show at Yale Secondary High School under their belts, You Say Party We Say Die charges into 2009. We discuss the future of downtown Abbotsford, liesure activies, favourite on the road tunes, and the ultimate YSP! WSD! Sandwhich (It’s gluten free), and we even managed to wheedle a couple track names from the new album. Just 4: Laura Palmers Prom, Alannah Myles, Thieves and There is Love (Within my heart). DARK TRANQUILITY

Dark Tranquility :: From Left to Right
Martin Brandstrom - Keyboards
Martin Henriksson - Guitars
Niklas Sundin - Guitars
Mikael Stanne - Vocals
Michael Nicklasson - Ex-Bassist
Anders Jivarp - Drums

As one of the first and longest standing bands from the Gothenburg scene in Sweden, Dark Tranquillity has maintained a degree of musical integrity few bands can claim. Formed back in 1989, the band has had a solid core of musicians who have all grown and evolved with one another (Mikael Stanne, Anders Jivarp, Niklas Sundin & Martin Henriksson). The progression each album showcases is evidence of this. Their first release in 1993, “Skydancer”, is still regarded as one of the most original debut records in recent memory. The album featured ex-front man Anders Friden (now of In Flames) and had a good mix of clean vocals and female vocals. Their breakthrough came with their second release in 1995: “The Gallery”. This is still looked upon as a melodic death metal classic and is one of the pioneer albums of the genre.

1999 brought a small lineup change and the experimental album “Projector”. This record brought back the use of clean vocals as well as female vocals. The band was awarded Swedish Grammy nomination for this effort. Two releases and 3 years later came along their fan favorite and landmark album “Damage Done”. This album set the tone of the band and is credited as being their best effort by many fans alike.

Since 2002’s release, Dark Tranquillity have released two more albums. While in a similar vein as Damage Done, both “Character” and “Fiction” are as creative and thought-provoking as any of their previous albums. Dark Tranquillity has proven to be one of the few bands who posess the ability to maintain a solid focus and yet still put out creative, jaw-dropping music, head-banging music.

In 2008 Dark Tranquillity recorded a live performance in Milan, Italy. The spectacle consisted of songs spanning their entire career and even a guest female vocalist for two of the songs. Now with new bass player Daniel Antonsson (formerly of Soilwork and currently still a member of Dimension Zero), a dvd release and album number nine on the way, 2009 should prove to be one of the band’s most exciting years to date.

Tuesday, February 10th, 2009

Older news, no?

But new for the online world. CIVL Radio has, along with 309 Design created a new line of T-shirts for the youngest community and campus radio station servicing the Mission, Abbotsford, Chilliwack areas.

This is new news.

If your lonely, or have a partner and want to celebrate your love in a downtown sushi restaurant that doubles as a kareoke party and live music venue, Hoko’s. Hoko’s is hosting a Valentines party with Falcao & Monashee, The Magician, Unreliable Narrator and Kidnap Kids! Facebook event page? HERE.

Oh, and in a week and 2 days, You Say Party! We Say Die! plays at Yale Secondary with Hard Feelings and Guests(The WCB has bowed out due to midterms). Look for an interview with YSP WSD to show up on this here website real soon. It will be massive. The show, I mean. But the interview I guess as well.

Thanks for listening to CIVL Radio.

KARLA ADOLPHE // The Chair & Microphone

Monday, February 2nd, 2009

A week ago Karla Adolphe(That is her above, sitting on the floor with the open jack-in-the-box. She looks less cartoony in real life), quite well known through her work with the acclaimed folk act of Jacob and Lily, swept through Abbotsford and the Fraser Valley in general.  She managed to find time to stop in at CIVL Radio, and I had the opportunity to interview the songstress. Discover her favorite sandwich, her feelings on playing alone, which restrooms are preferred on a cross-Canada tour, and the roots of The Chair and Microphone album. Plus, she kindly agreed to play two tracks from aforementioned album in studio, which you can find at the conclusion of the interview
