The Harrison Festival Of The Arts Is For Children Too

Hey parents and guardians! On Wed, July 14 the Harrison Festival of the Arts has a special venue just for children.

From their website:

“Come Play with the Arts and explore the world through music, crafts, physical activities and a diversity of entertainers. A full day of activities for the young and the young at heart.”

The admission is $6 and this event runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Harrison Memorial Hall. There are also group rates available.

Evenings In The Hall At The Harrison Festival Of The Arts

Starting on July 9 and running until July 18 at the Harrison Memorial Hall, Evenings in the Hall will feature music, spoken word and theatre for the Harrison Festival of the Arts.

All shows start at 8:30 p.m. Well, except for Sundays and Mondays when shows will begin at 7:30 p.m. instead.

Workshops At The Harrison Festival Of The Arts

The Harrison Festival of the Arts showcases great art, music, crafts, theatre and spoken word. It also offers visitors a chance to be creative with weekend workshops from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Each workshop is at the Harrison Memorial Hall.

Acadian Step Dance - Sat, July 10

“Many forms of music are meant to accompany dancing and this is no more so than in the Acadian tradition. Join members of PEI band Gadelle to learn some basics of Acadian step dancing.”

Tabla - Sun, July 11

“Gurpreet Chana, The Tabla Guy, has made a name for himself with incredible performances, including a half time show at a Toronto Raptors game that is a Youtube hit. Trained in the Punjab Gharana (style), Gurpreet will demonstrate the tabla and talk of its history and cultural significance.”

Gaelic Song Tradition - Sat, July 17

“Join Gaelic singer Mary Jane Lamond in an exploration of the Scottish Gaelic song tradition in Nova Scotia. Through discussion and singing, Mary Jane will share the depth and breadth of this rich music form.”

North to Canada - Sun, July 18

“Diana Braithwaite and Chris Whiteley, creators of the ‘North to Canada’ show about the Underground Railroad featured at this year’s Festival, will talk and sing about the role of music and song in the movement of slaves in Canada.”

Music On The Beach - Harrison Festival Of The Arts

Every afternoon or evening at the Harrison Festival of the Arts you can “enjoy musical style from around the world at the Music on the Beach Stage with the mountains and majestic Harrison Lake as a backdrop. A wide variety of local, national and international musicians are featured.”

Since 1979, the Harrison Festival of the Arts has gained international acclaim for their festival which has its roots with local visual and musical arts and culture. In Harrison Hot Springs from July 10 to 18, 2010 The Harrison Festival of the Arts will be back.

“Over ten days the Harrison Festival presents music from all corners of the globe, as well as visual and literary arts, theatre, a large outdoor art and craft market, workshops and a special day for children. Click on the links below for more detailed information on each venue and event.

Evenings in the Hall - Experience the magic of live performance in this intimate indoor venue with eight full length concerts, one evening of theatre and one evening of literary readings.

Music on the Beach - Enjoy musical styles from around the world at this outdoor stage with the mountains and majestic Harrison Lake as a backdrop.

Art Exhibit - Divergence, a show by Black Canadian Assemblage artist Rhonda Simmonds, will be featured at the Ranger Station Art Gallery.

Workshops - Join in participatory workshops led by Festival performers.
