The National Campus Community Radio Conference 2010

Friday, June 4th, 2010

From Monday June 7, 2010 to Saturday June 12, 2010 CIVL Radio will be sending four delegates to the National Campus Community Radio Conference (NCRC 2010) that is hosted by CKGI Radio on Gabriola Island. This will be a great opportunity for CIVL Radio to cultivate a better ‘radio culture’ before broadcasting on the FM Dial at 101.7 FM later this summer to early fall.

Attending the event are the following people: DJ and volunteer extraordinaire Angie Reid; Interim Station Manager Dustin Ellis; Office Manager Sydney Lamirand; and Promotions and Communications director Larry Portelance.

Angie Reid was selected for funding by CIVL Radio for her outstanding work as a volunteer. While the rest were approved for funding by the Student Union Society (UFVSUS) last Friday May 28, 2010.

As the CIVL Radio delegates are all UFV students, they could not have attended the NCRC 2010 without the funding CIVL Radio and UFVSUS receives from the students of the UFV. For this reason, CIVL Radio is very grateful to the students of UFV and we will do our best represent UFV at the NCRC 2010.

Follow CIVL Radio on twitter for regular updates.

Thank you UFVSUS and the students of UFV for this great opportunity!

Thank you to the students of UFV for this great opportunity!

Abbotsford, BC - CIVL Radio, the campus and community radio station of the University of the Fraser Valley, has recently filed an application to the CRTC to change their allotted frequency to 101.7FM and to move their tower location to near the Mount Lehman Road highway exit. From now until May 4, 2010 the CRTC is seeking public consultation from community organizations in Abbotsford, Mission, Aldergrove and Langley.

CIVL Radio Society President Dustin Ellis noted that “CIVL Radio has a mission to support the local community anyway that we can. CIVL Radio does this by promoting local events and by playing public service announcements.” Ellis also pointed out that “CIVL Radio is a non-profit society and these services are provided free-of-charge as long as the message is for the benefit of the community.”

Community organizations can submit their comments online at the CRTC website, by mail or by fax. To find the CIVL Radio application, Google “CRTC 2010-192″ and click on the section called the “UCFV Campus and Community Radio Society.” During the consultation process, the CRTC will need to know why the organization supports CIVL Radio with details to support their position.

Ellis remarked that “CIVL Radio cannot wait to broadcast on the FM dial, but until then one can listen to CIVL Radio online or one can add any of our programs as a podcast. Check it out at www.civl.ca today.”

To help CIVL Radio help the community with promotional support, send an email to psa@civl.ca with the details or phone 604 851 6306.
