CIVL Radio To Host A Concert Series Called The CIVL Stage

Tuesday, August 17th, 2010

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ABBOTSFORD, BC - CIVL Radio has partnered with the UFV Student Union Society (SUS) and the Cascade Newspaper to host a concert series called the CIVL Stage at Casey’s on Campus. The first night of the the CIVL Stage will be on Friday Sept 3 in which Abbotsford’s The Progressive Thinker and Women of Britain will perform along with Vancouver’s Petroleum By-Product.

The CIVL Stage will help keep the independent music torch alive after the Atangard Community Project re-ignited it with the Jam In Jubilee. After seeing the Jam In Jubilee wrap-up on Aug 12, new CIVL Radio Station Manager Aaron Levy said that “it was great to see what’s happening in the local music scene.”

A newcomer to Abbotsford, Levy goes on to say that despite the success of the Jam In Jubilee, “there still seems to be a common concern within the local music scene about the lack of venue space in the Abbotsford. The CIVL Stage is about getting other student organizations, such as the SUS and the Cascade Newspaper, on board with addressing this concern at Casey’s on Campus.”

At the CIVL Stage some things will be different from the Jam In Jubilee. There will be a five dollar admission to each concert and it will be a nineteen-plus event. CIVL Radio’s Promotions Director Larry Portelance says “the CIVL Stage is an event for and by young adults who don’t mind their music a bit unpolished and gritty. If one is familiar with !earshot campus and community charts, then one will be familiar with the kind of music the CIVL Stage is trying to promote.”

Portelance also said “the performers for the CIVL Stage will range from indie-pop to new-wave, pop-punk to lo-fi. The aim is to give the students of UFV and members of the community two rock and roll shows that will also give them something to talk about before Dis-O hits the Green on Sept 23.”

On the headliner for Saturday Sept 18, Portelance says “I just cannot say who it is. I must respect the performer’s request to not announce it until Sept 3. But stay tuned to our various social media presences or check out our CIVL Stage website for more information.”

The CIVL Stage was made possible with contributions from SUS, the Cascade Newspaper and CIVL Radio. These events will also have a dedicated team of student volunteers to make it happen. The National Campus Community Radio Conference 2010

Friday, June 4th, 2010

From Monday June 7, 2010 to Saturday June 12, 2010 CIVL Radio will be sending four delegates to the National Campus Community Radio Conference (NCRC 2010) that is hosted by CKGI Radio on Gabriola Island. This will be a great opportunity for CIVL Radio to cultivate a better ‘radio culture’ before broadcasting on the FM Dial at 101.7 FM later this summer to early fall.

Attending the event are the following people: DJ and volunteer extraordinaire Angie Reid; Interim Station Manager Dustin Ellis; Office Manager Sydney Lamirand; and Promotions and Communications director Larry Portelance.

Angie Reid was selected for funding by CIVL Radio for her outstanding work as a volunteer. While the rest were approved for funding by the Student Union Society (UFVSUS) last Friday May 28, 2010.

As the CIVL Radio delegates are all UFV students, they could not have attended the NCRC 2010 without the funding CIVL Radio and UFVSUS receives from the students of the UFV. For this reason, CIVL Radio is very grateful to the students of UFV and we will do our best represent UFV at the NCRC 2010.

Follow CIVL Radio on twitter for regular updates.

Thank you UFVSUS and the students of UFV for this great opportunity!

Thank you to the students of UFV for this great opportunity!

WEEKEND AGENDA

Friday, April 3rd, 2009

How did we not hype JunoFest last week? Well, it happened, and for the best review of what went down, your best bet is to track down Larry Portelance of the CanCon Containership and he will probably give you a good run-down.

Live music pickings are relatively slimmer this weekend. Yet perhaps only because of the past weekend’s absolute overload of sound. Here, I plan your weekend.

Friday night, you stumble by The Biltmore Cabaret, pay your $16 bones and catch a show with MIRAH, along with an opening performance from Tara Jane O’Neil.

Recover. Then, Saturday night Get into the Hot Panda, Fanshaw, and Vincat show happening on Saturday April 4th, 2009 at the Media Club.

If that doesn’t work out. Little Mountain Studio is hosting Fine Mist, GR8-2000, Nihilist Party, and London Drugs. That’s the band. Not the department store, or narcotics from the capital of the UK.

OH! And get this! April 5th. That’s this Sunday. Flemish Eye (That’s Chad Vangaalen’s wee gig) recording artists Women, with Nu Sensae and Kidnapping are playing at the Wise Hall. That’s the Wise Hall, 1882 Adanac St. 8:00PM.

Love from CIVL Radio
